Thomas J. Price, born in South London in 1981, is a sculptor whose practice also includes photography and film. Price takes inspiration from antiquity—Greek, Roman, and Egyptian art—and when he first made busts and figures in bronze he was exploring “the subliminal message it holds.” The material, he says, “lasts forever, and it is the material to make something ‘official.’ It shows worth, and is essentially tied into the Greek Empire.” Today, Price combines ancient materials with newer ones such as aluminum and paster. Large and small sculptures he’s made since the beginning of his career are part of his first solo exhibition in Switzerland. —Jensen Davis
