The Montreux Jazz Festival goes beyond jazz. Held at the Casino Barrière de Montreux on the beautiful Lake Geneva shoreline, jam sessions, silent discos, film screenings, vinyl listening sessions, literary gatherings, disco brunch clubs, drag performances, and auto-tune karaoke parties will accompany live performances from dozens of artists with jazz influences. One musician, Yazz Ahmed, cloaks boundaries between jazz and electronic music. Others, like Peggy Gou, are D.J.s with energetic dance sets. The range in sounds and musical habitats is vast and expands beyond the music into other forms of art. In total there will be more than 50 live performances and 600 activities at the festival. One more thing. It’s free. —Henry McGrath
