Based on her experience working as a personal assistant to Vogue editor Anna Wintour, Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel The Devil Wears Prada reads more as a cautionary tale than a romanticized vision of becoming a journalist in New York City. The film adaptation, however, leaned into the fantasy, inspiring waves of aspiring writers (guilty!) to flock to the Big Apple in pursuit of a glamorous media life. Reality bites in the film’s sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, in which Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) faces off against Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt), a former assistant turned rival executive, as they battle for dwindling advertising dollars in an era of declining print media.
