There’s a common french proverb that goes ”Voler un voleur, ce n’est pas voler” (to steal from a thief is not stealing). In 1905, Maurice Leblanc ran with the idea and created a French rival to Sherlock Holmes: Arsène Lupin. Debonair, intellectual, and patriotic, Lupin is a gentleman thief who robs only the corrupt and wealthy, all while living by a strict code of honor. More than a century later, he’s back in Part Four of Netflix’s Lupin, now streaming. Omar Sy stars as Assane Diop, a modern-day thief who takes inspiration from his literary hero and pulls off elaborate heists, running circles around the Paris police. All eight new episodes premiered on October 23. —Clara Scholl
