Born in 1992, Xiyao Wang is one of China’s fastest rising emerging artists, soaring upward on her enchanting abstract paintings. Though she now lives and works in Berlin, Xiyao grew up in natural surroundings along the Yangtze River mountain range. The serenity of Taoism and the poetic moves of the martial arts are inspirations she fuses with an admiration for artists like Cy Twombly. The influence of dance is particularly prominent in her paintings, which suggest movement in space, a dynamism she creates by mixing acrylic paint, chalk, and oil sticks. Xiyao’s latest flights are on view at Massimo di Carlo’s flagship Milan location. —Lucy Horowitz
