“For years, I’ve loved detective shows,” says David Mitchell. “It’s a kind of television I love watching so I’ve long wanted to be in one.” In September 2024, Mitchell got his wish—in a role created with him in mind! He stars in what the BBC calls a “case-of-the-week-mystery-crime-comedy-drama,” otherwise known as the hit television series Ludwig. The British comedian and actor plays the professional puzzler-turned-detective John Taylor, who publishes books under the pen name “Ludwig.” When Taylor’s twin brother goes missing, the brother’s wife, Lucy (Anna Maxwell Martin), enlists Taylor to find him. Going undercover as his brother, Taylor infiltrates the police station where his twin worked. This cozy British whodunit begins streaming in the U.S. this week. “I hope they’ll like it,” Mitchell says. “The fact that it’s so overtly British might help it.” —Carolina de Armas
