Sheela Gowda: Remains

Apr 4 – Sept 15, 2019
Via Chiese, 2, 20126 Milano MI, Italy

“A lot of my work involves inserting myself into the recycling of materials,” says the Indian artist Sheela Gowda. “I enter the life of that material and I choose to bring it back into another space, which is the space of an artwork. So it gets another life.” Incense, hair rope, old metal, stones. Fragility, ephemerality, transformation, pattern. A major solo show of Gowda’s work—her first in Italy—ranges from watercolors and prints to site-specific installations that complement this Milanese gallery’s looming space. —J.V.
