An otherwordly box of concrete with a single beckoning door has landed at the Glenstone Museum, just along the Woodland Trail, where the forest is at its thickest. A collaboration between the architect Thomas Phifer and the artist Richard Serra, this 4,000-square-foot “house” will hold a new installation by Serra. The sculptor has already created two works for Glenstone: the torqued spiral Sylvester (2001) and a ribbon of steel called Contour 290 (2004). Serra’s new work consists of four steel cylinders of varying heights and diameters, their charcoal surfaces textured by the forging process. Each weighs 82 tons. Industrial, ancient, alien, they loom there, sentient inside a structure that glows white against the trees. —Elena Clavarino
