The great English critic Brigid Brophy placed the novels of Jane Austen in the same pantheon as the operas of Mozart, noting that both embodied the “clarity, form, and wit of the enlightenment.” Perhaps this is why Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, and Emma—all published more than two centuries ago—have seen successful adaptations of every kind. Recently, Pride and Prejudice was adapted into a musical by the Tony Award-nominee Paul Gordon (Broadway’s Jane Eyre). The production, directed by Robert Kelley, established an all-time box office record at its world premiere in Palo Alto this past winter. Now, this Pride and Prejudice is available for streaming on the Streaming Musicals platform, a website dedicated to presenting original musical theater to audiences around the world. —J.V.
