A movie about overworked women looking for an escape that can’t seem to go to plan, Spa Weekend is the latest entry to the sub-genre that includes Rough Night, Bad Moms, and Girls Trip. In this iteration, Leslie Mann, Anna Faris, and Michelle Buteau—all known for their comedic chops—head to a quiet retreat at a luxury Palm Springs resort. But with the arrival of Isla Fisher, who plays their train wreck of a friend, chaos ensues. The film is wacky but compassionate at its core. “We’re at a time in our lives when it’s very hard to nurture friendships,” Faris said on The Today Show, and Spa Weekend “was just a dream job.” All signs point to a wild ride. Directors Jon Lucas and Scott Moore wrote the screenplay for The Hangover, so no further evidence needed. —Maggie Turner
