Life, Larry, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness

Larry David on Life, Larry, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness.

Streaming on HBO

A new historical drama reimagines the defining moments of American history through the uniquely dissatisfied eyes of Larry David. From the Revolutionary War to the dawn of flight and beyond, Larry blends sketch comedy and historical satire. He inserts himself (and his trademark irritation and awkwardness) into the nation’s most celebrated events, questioning the wisdom of the Founding Fathers and second-guessing great inventors. Here, the nation’s greatest triumphs are met with a skeptical shrug or his signature “pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good.” Executive-produced by Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions, the show stars too many big names to count, but here’s a sample for the road: Jerry Seinfeld, Jon Hamm, Susie Essmann, Isla Fisher, Vince Vaughn, Bill Hader, Jane Krakowski, Kathryn Hahn, Rita Wilson, and even Lin-Manuel Miranda. —Carolina de Armas
