After decades as a specialist in photography and the decorative arts, and most recently holding the position of deputy chairman at Christie’s, Philippe Garner’s own work takes center stage in a new exhibition at Hamiltons, in London. A collection of Kodachrome photographs transports us back to the 1970s in Provence, where Garner was born. In his early 20s at the time, Garner wandered the beaches of Saint Tropez and with a curious, precise eye captured the bronze skin of sunbathers, the bright reds, yellows, and greens of storefronts, swimsuits, and salads. Teeming with color and vitality, the sensual, sun-soaked photographs embody the bohemian spirit of summer in the South of France. —Paulina Prosnitz
