Discussing his most powerful installation to date, Patrick Staff says, “Venus the planet is considered a sister planet to earth that is completely inhospitable.” A LGBTQ+ advocate and trans artist, Staff uses Venus as a metaphor to evoke uncertainty—the space between living and not living that’s often inhabited by people on the fringes of society’s norms. In the first room, Staff tells stories of media distortion and objectification; in the second, of animals, societal control, and the connection between mortality and metamorphosis. —E.C.
