Otobong Nkanga: Of Cords Curling Around Mountains

June 20, 2021 – Jan 30, 2022
Piazzale Mafalda di Savoia, 10098 Rivoli TO, Italy

“I think what artists do is open different portals,” says the Nigerian-born Otobong Nkanga. “It makes us understand that we are not just an entity on our own. It makes us understand the repetitions over time.” Nkanga uses sculpture, drawing, installations, and performance to explore complicated ecological and economic processes. She reflects on postcolonial histories and the mechanisms that define modern life, because she believes these forces and the human body are interdependent. Created on a monumental scale, this site-specific project is populated by rugs and sculptures inspired by ancient minerals. —E.C.
