With the writers’ strike still on and hardly any new shows on the horizon, the annual New York Film Festival couldn’t come at a better time. Every autumn since 1962 critics and cinephiles have rolled into Lincoln Center to see the best movies of the year. The lineup this fall includes highly awaited North American premieres—Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla and Todd Haynes’s May December—as well as buzzie indie films like All of Us Strangers, starring the internet’s favorite actors Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal. International films have always played a crucial role in the event, and this year’s picks include the Cannes Jury Prize-winning Finnish romance Fallen Leaves and not one but two new works from the beloved South Korean director Hong Sangsoo. Be sure to snag tickets in advance. —Lucy Horowitz
