“Even the loftiest of mountains begins on the ground.” “Love truth even if it harms you, and hate lies even if they serve you.” “Little and lasting is better than much and passing.” These three Moroccan proverbs conjure up an ancient country of blunt wisdom. And in “Moroccan Trilogy 1950–2020,” three coastal cities—Tétouan, Casablanca, Tangier—are the focus, or locus, of an exhibition that looks at the country’s artistic development post-W.W. II to the present. A joint collaboration between Morocco and Spain, which is only 14 kilometers to the north, the exhibition celebrates the diverse influences that make Morocco a crucible for creativity. —L.J.
