Sui Park: City Ecology

Part of Sui Park’s outdoor installation in Bella Abzug Park.

542 W 36th St., New York, NY 10018

Sui Park, a New York City-based artist from Seoul, Korea, wants to create “lasting moments, evoking and encapsulating our precious thoughts.” In her new installation in Bella Abzug Park, she weaves together cable ties and industrial materials to produce biomorphic forms, something like the futuristic offspring of Ruth Asawa’s floating woven sculptures. The clash of organic and inorganic reminds us of the particular beauty found in densely-populated urban spaces. Park spreads clusters throughout the green space to represent the varied communities and dynamism of New York City. “City Ecology” was commissioned by the Hudson Yards Hell’s Kitchen Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of the people who live, work, and visit the area. —Jeanne Malle
