“I was interested in the way the world is connected and the invisible forces always at work,” Field Kallop has said of her beginnings as an artist. Since graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design, in 2011, Kallop has explored the intersection of color theory, mathematics, and Transcendentalism. Her paintings—each a unique world of color-blocked curves, circles, and lines—echo Josef Albers’s geometries, Hilma af Klint’s mysticism, and Buddhist symbolism. Painting in translucent layers, Kallop creates seemingly infinite depths of color. The title of her third show at Voltz Clarke Gallery comes from a line in “The First Elegy,” by Rainer Maria Rilke: “The eternal current / sweeps all the ages with it through both kingdoms / forever and drowns their voices in both.” —Jeanne Malle
