Mamma Andersson: Œuvres Sur Papier

Apr 23 – May 23, 2026
108 Rue Vieille du Temple 75003 Paris, France

Can art be gentle yet unsettling? The Swedish artist Mamma Andersson, now 64, strikes that balance. “You can only draw from your own well,” she has said. “It never runs dry.” Andersson was born in Luleå, Sweden, near the polar circle, and her “well” is the sparse landscape of her hometown. It frequently appears in her work, in addition to bourgeois interiors and theater sets that recall the world of 19th-century Romanticism. These scenes are layered and often meticulously composed; they can also turn eerie and off-putting. Andersson’s sixth solo exhibition at David Zwirner Paris features drawings and prints from a new body of work, created in Paris at Atelier René Tazé. —Maggie Turner
