Liverpool Biennial 2021: The Stomach and the Port

Mar 20 – June 6, 2021

If recent years were all about the mind and stretching its limits, the coronavirus pandemic has brought a renewed emphasis on the body. No matter how smart you are or how much money your cunning has made you, we are all suddenly at the mercy of an infinitesimal yet very physical thing. The Liverpool Biennial, now in its 11th edition, takes this reality and runs with it, imagining Liverpool as an organism shaped by—and shaping—its environment. The art ranges from Judy Chicago’s stylized psychedelic lithographs at the Tate Liverpool to interactive performances by Luisa Ungar at outdoor venues throughout the city. —J.V.
