Andy Warhol: Line and Image

Andy Warhol, Ladies and Gentlemen, 1975.

Until Jan 10, 2027
19 Rue de Vaugirard, 75006 Paris, France

Before the silkscreens, the Factory, and the Campbell’s soup cans, Andy Warhol made his living as a commercial illustrator. Even after he became famous for his mechanically reproduced images, drawing remained central to his practice. In Paris, the Musée du Luxembourg is now presenting 150 Warhol drawings—early advertising illustrations, portraits, caricatures, and private works exploring his sexuality. The exhibition traces the artist’s transformation from Andrew Warhola, a young man raised in Pittsburgh, to one of the most recognizable figures in modern art. It also examines his fascination with celebrity, handwriting, and death, particularly after Valerie Solanas shot him in 1968. —Elena Clavarino
