Although Leonardo da Vinci died exactly 502 years ago, his paintings, drawings, and inventions remain as contemporary as ever. In Milan, home to The Last Supper, a new museum showcases Leonardo’s work in an environment both immersive and interactive. Digitized reconstructions of the paintings hang in the gallery, while over 200 large working models of his inventions—including The Submarine, the Time Machine, and the Mechanical Eagle—animate the museum spaces high and low. Leonardo’s genius comes to life above and around the viewer, with inspiration everywhere one looks. —E.C.
