Back in the day, the bill of fare at the 22,000-seat Arena di Verona ran to Christians vs. lions. These days, the buses roll in for operatic equivalents to The Ten Commandments. This in not a monument just any old lone star can fill. On its centennial as the summer’s premier showcase for la lirica alfresco, three tenors have signed up for one solo evening a piece. The suave Chilean bel canto specialist Juan Diego Flórez leads the pack on July 23. After that, for old time’s sake, the 82-year-old Plácido Domingo—last of the original cap-T Three Tenors—steps out for another spin on August 6. Effectively the inheritor of his mantle, Jonas Kaufmann wraps up on August 20. And if Bodies Beautiful are more your bag, book for the dance show by Roberto Bolle and Friends on July 19. —Matthew Gurewitsch
