Abstract Expressionism was all the rage when Jasper Johns, born in 1930, entered the art scene. As its influence waned Johns grew to prominence, part of a circle of like-minded peers: the artist Robert Rauschenberg, the choreographer Merce Cunningham, and the composer John Cage. Aside from creating the painted flags, targets, maps, and numerals that brought him international fame, Johns is also an astute collector of art. Works by colleagues and past masters—among them Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, Marcel Duchamp, Sol LeWitt, and Käthe Kollwitz—are part of this exhibition of 100 drawings from the Collection of Jasper Johns. —Elena Clavarino
