When visual artists make historical or archival references in their works, they typically point to a specific era or movement. Jasmine Little, however, combines many periods and styles, from Ancient Greece through the present day, in her attempt to conjure the passing of time. Little’s exhibition at Nina Johnson presents both sculptures and large-scale paintings that take inspiration from the still life, naturalist rock art, and mythical and religious histories. Underscoring her identity as “first an appreciator of art and secondly as an artist,” the breadth of styles and experiences displayed in this collection reflect her success as both. —Lucy Horowitz
