In 1993, Elaine Constantine was commissioned by The Face magazine to capture the soul scene of 1990s England. She traveled from London to Manchester, taking photographs in London’s storied 100 Club and the Manchester Ritz as well as in smaller venues. The flash of Constantine’s camera illuminates 20-somethings in basement nightclubs, caught in mid-acrobatics as they dance and high-kick to Lester Tipton’s “This Won’t Change.” This exhibition in Bristol takes its title from Lou Pride’s 1970 song “I’m Com’un Home in the Morn’un.” An American blues singer, Pride achieved cult status in the northern soul subculture preserved in Constantine’s photos. —Paulina Prosnitz
