In 1989, a middle-aged Gerhard Richter visited the Swiss Alpine village of Sils, a quaint place just a few minutes drive from its glamorous neighbor Saint-Moritz. For the next 25 years, Richter would return to Sils for summers and winters, developing a fascination with the Engadine region. While there, he painted snow-capped mountains, waterfalls, and vibrant flowers, sometimes in his signature style of photorealism and sometimes as abstract oil paintings. This exhibition—which spans three galleries (Nietzsche-Haus, Segantini Museum and Hauser & Wirth)—presents 70 Richter works à la Engadine. —Elena Clavarino
