At the 10th New York City Design Festival, the Dutch design team FreelingWaters is having its first solo show in the U.S. The company name plays on the surnames of its founders—purposely misspelled and mispronounced—Gils Frieling and Job Wouters. Six recently commissioned revamps of 18th- and 19th-century cabinets, revitalized with technicolor paint and bold patterns, are on view. Alongside these folk-meets-futurist pieces, there are ornate vessels, antique relics, and large-scale murals. The gallery is located within the heart of the West Village, and is open by appointment only. —Jensen Davis
