Queer Lens: A History of Photography

Arthur Tress, Gay Activists at First Gay Pride Parade, Christopher Street, New York (detail), 1970.

Until Sept 28
17985 Pacific Coast Highway, Pacific Palisades, CA 90272, United States

Photographs in which the subject or subtext reads as queer have historically been supressed or destroyed. Nonetheless, this imagery has been integral to the validation of queer life and culture. Featuring photographs of prominent queer artists such as Keith Haring and Josephine Baker, this exhibition assembles more than 270 works that document and support LGBTQ+ individuals and experiences. Across eight chronological sections, the show explores the relationship between queerness and photography in each of these time periods, celebrating love along the way. —Charlie St John
