Freaky Friday was released in 2003, a Disney remake of Mary Rodgers’s 1972 novel, in which a harried mother (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her teenage daughter (Lindsay Lohan) swap bodies for a day of chaos and comedy. Directed by Mark Waters, the film was a box-office hit and earned Lohan, then just 16, widespread praise, making her one of the era’s breakout stars. Now comes the sequel, Freakier Friday, directed by Nisha Ganatra. Curtis and Lohan have graduated to grandmother and mother, and Julia Butters plays Harper Coleman, Lohan’s irritable daughter. There’s another magical body swap, and a few new generations to contend with. —Elena Clavarino
