When Call My Agent first premiered in 2015, its unapologetic skewering of actors’ egos and their outrageous demands made it a fan favorite in French television. Six years after the show ended, a feature-length film revisits the perpetually anxious Andréa (Camille Cottin), now a newly minted director whose lead actor, days before the project begins shooting, leaves for a Wes Anderson film. Amid legal battles and on-set chaos, she finds herself forced to call on past colleagues to remedy the situation. With a self-deprecating tone similar to that of Fleabag, the film is a realistic portrait of Hollywood’s inner workings. “It laughs at the absurdness of actors, but loves them too,” Cottin told the Times of London. “It’s not the White House. Or a hospital. You’re not saving lives, but nevertheless you live with the job with the same intensity and there is something quite funny about that.” Here, no actor is spared from ridicule—not even George Clooney, who appears in a cameo. —Maggie Turner
