Eugenio Recuenco was in a plane, 36,000 feet high, when he realized that the words and meanings of places and things no longer meant what they did in his childhood. In that moment, he writes, “I felt the need to share my vision of the world; trying to make room for the vision I used to have in the past—a vision that I wanted to preserve—and the reality that so often irritated me.” The result is his astonishing photo series, “365°,” in which Recuenco staged a scene—satiric, witty, surreal, unsettling, or sad—for every calendar day of the year, each alluding to a historic moment or event. The photographed days are arranged in a seamless grid, each backlit by an independent light box. Spectacular! —L.J.
