Maurizio Cattelan has built his career on fun. His hijinks include: crashing his gallery’s booth at the Cologne Art Fair with a sign saying he was closed for business; renting out his exhibition space to an advertising agency; and faking his own retirement for a decade. The art he produces is in the same register. There’s Him (2001), a 40-inch sculpture of Hitler kneeling. And the taxidermized horses suspended from ceilings and walls. And the 18K-gold toilet installed in the Guggenheim’s bathroom and titled America (2016). Cattelan’s first major solo exhibition in Germany brings together the seminal works Him, Novecento, and La Rivoluzione Siamo Noi (2000) as well as new commissions conceived specifically for Mies van der Rohe’s glass hall. —Elena Clavarino
