Emeka Ogboh

Oct 30 – Dec 18, 2021

The multimedia artist Emeka Ogboh is from Lagos, Nigeria, a city of bustling meeting places—the market, the bus stop—along the Nigerian coast. Ogboh is multifaceted. His background is in graphic design, he brews beer, and he’s even released a music label with Berlin’s most famous nightclub, Berghain. But Ogboh is most invested in his expansive sound archive, recorded on city streets, beginning with those markets in Lagos. Conversations, traffic, public-service announcements, ambient noise, Ogboh blends them to into mesmerizing soundscapes. In his first U.S. gallery exhibition, Ogboh’s installations combine the visual and the aural. —E.C.
