Back in the early aughts, when Lil Wayne and Blink-182 emerged, the two acts sharing one stage would have seemed impossible. New Orleans’s Lil Wayne cut his teeth down South before stepping solo into the national spotlight with 2004’s Tha Carter. Blink-182 came out of San Diego’s suburbs, where restlessness gave shape to a pop-punk teenage dirtbag sensibility. But in a recent mash-up of a Weezy hit and a Blink-182 classic, Wayne’s boldness—“My criteria compared to your career, it isn’t fair”—matches Blink’s defiance—“My friends say I should act my age / What’s my age again?” The pairing is surprisingly natural. —C.J.F.
