Anything and everything can go into a Ben Edge painting. His latest solo exhibition—at the beautiful Fitzrovia Chapel—is named for what he calls his “most ambitious painting to date: Children of Albion. A 300 x 200 cm piece depicting the rich history and mythology of Britain.” If you think that’s not possible, you’ll just have to go see the work. Dragons, modern London, Stonehenge, Thatcher, horses, Suffragettes, coalminers, druids, they’re all there and that’s for starters. Edge’s style is precise, stylized, and full of delight; it’s as if images of people, objects, and buildings are toys he plays with. He is especially fascinated by Britain’s historic folk culture and rituals. “Creativity is something that you have in you,” Edge says, “we all do as human beings. And it’s a form of salvation.” —Laura Jacobs
