Born in 1868 in Borgonovo, Switzerland, Giovanni Giacometti was a well-known Impressionist painter whose three sons followed him into the art world. The youngest, Bruno, was an architect. The middle son, Diego, was a designer and sculptor. And the oldest, Alberto—the most celebrated and influential of the three—left a wealth of sculpture that combined elements of Surrealism and Cubism. His paintings, however, remain under the radar. This exhibition in Saint Moritz showcases Alberto Giacometti’s work at its most personal, highlighting painted landscapes of Stampa and Maloja, the villages in which he was born and raised, and incorporating members of his family as well. These works are a love letter to the mountain ranges and Swiss villages that defined Alberto’s early years. —Maggie Turner
