The Lebanese-American writer Kahlil Gibran is typically remembered as the author of one of the best-selling books of all time, The Prophet. Less known, however, is Gibran’s prolific work as a visual artist, a medium in which his fusion of Arab identity and traditional romanticism are as equally present as in his poetry and prose. To honor the 100th anniversary of The Prophet, over 100 illustrations and paintings by Gibran are on view at the Drawing Center, exhibited alongside manuscripts and first-edition books. The exhibition not only highlights Gibran’s artistic career but also contextualizes these mystical pieces within his literary legacy. —Lucy Horowitz
