“I design and craft large-scale porcelain wall installations,” Alice Riehl said in 2025. “My approach to ceramics has always involved a form of hybridization between plant forms and textile works, echoing the happy moments of my childhood spent with my grandmothers amidst needlework and mountain walks.” Riehl, who lives in Paris, trained in porcelain art at the Institue de Céramique Française in Sèvres. Drawing inspiration from the leaves, blossoms, and root systems found in life and in art, she creates porcelain wall sculptures that are as botanically correct as they are beautiful. This installation at MAD is the first U.S. museum presentation of Riehl’s work. It brings together four monumental wall murals—Timidité (2025), Dent-de-Lion (2024), Songe (2024), and Alter Ego (2022). —Laura Jacobs
