Christine and John Gachot met at William Sofield’s studio. (Before that, Christine worked under André Balazs on Chiltern Firehouse and The Standard, while John designed Marc Jacobs’s townhouse and retail spaces for Gucci and Bottega Veneta.) Since launching GACHOT in 2012, they’ve built a practice that has shaped some of the most recognizable interiors in fashion and hospitality. Their new furniture collection for Artemest, debuting at Salone, draws in part from their Sutton Place living room. Here are the objects and references they return to when thinking about a well-designed life

“Gerhard Richer is one of John’s favorite artists—this book is a top pick for gifting. We’re never without several copies on hand.”

Cassigoli

Soft Travel Brown Leather Backgammon

“Anyone who knows us understands backgammon is THE Gachot family boardgame. We’re always playing—at home, on Shelter Island, on vacation. This soft leather board is made for travel; ours has its passport at this point.”

Cartier

Vintage 1970s Red Lacquered Pentagon Lighter

“John is a longtime collector of vintage and modern lighters. They often become meaningful, lasting gifts that we share with family members to commemorate their important milestones.”

Bernal Cutlery

Fineline Wa-Gyuto

“John is the chef in our kitchen, and this is his must-have. A thin Japanese-metal blade meets a solid octagonal handle, creating a kitchen staple that is a study in both design and performance.”

Drowsy

Damask Rose Eyelash Protecting Mask

“I bought one of these for myself and let John borrow it one evening—and I never got it back! Now, we buy them in pairs. They’re amazing to travel with.”

Billecart-Salmon

$104.99

Le Rosé

“Oddly enough, John and I don’t actually drink a lot of champagne, but our family and friends adore it. We keep it stocked at Shelter, where it’s flowing by the pool all summer long.”

Hermès

$243

Trio Lip Set

“John gave these to me as a Christmas gift, and they were a joy to receive. The packaging alone is amazing—it’s a present upon a present. I loved them so much I wound up gifting them for Mother’s Day that year.”

Trudon

$48

Royale Taper Candles

“Tapers are a must in my home. They instantly elevate the atmosphere and make for a special moment. No one makes them like Trudon, my go-to.”

Yeti

$800

Stainless Steel Cooler

“This cooler lives at our home on Shelter Island, and we actually have a few scattered throughout the property. In summer, they’re always filled with cold beer and rosé. They’re in constant use—the true workhorse of the season!”

Oliver Peoples x Khaite

$525

Cat-Eye Sunglasses

“As a day-one Khaite fan, her pieces have been the foundation of my wardrobe from the beginning. I have multiple pairs and buy them seasonally—they’ve become an effortless staple and gift for my team.”

Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M Watch

“John is an Omega collector, and appreciates vintage to this year’s latest and greatest. These are timeless pieces that never go out of style.”

“We have an endless supply of this hand soap. It’s an easy sink-side upgrade that smells like summer. They make a charming pop-in, host gift too.”

Il Buco Vita

Casale Il Buco Cutting Board

“After nearly two decades on Bond Street, we’ve always thought of Il Buco as an extension of home—our ‘front porch.’ A longtime favorite personally and in client projects. This cutting board is a quietly elevated kitchen essential: always out, in use, with simple bites for our children and friends.”

Ginori 1735

$195

Oriente Italiano Porcelain Charger Plate

“Ginori serveware is an essential in my collection. It immediately adds an easy elegance to my table, and the quality is unmatched.”
