Endless Summer

Summer is as much a state of mind as a season. It’s salty-haired and sandy-footed. It’s the scent of chlorine and the sizzle of charcoal. It’s the invitation of an empty hammock under a shade tree. It’s youth, freedom, and thick tomato sandwiches. And I never want it to end. Do not tell me about your back-to-school sales or your shorter days. I have no interest in whether that cool evening breeze is a harbinger of another season that will, for now, go nameless. Let it be summer forever and ever, if only in our imaginations and on our skin.

Ilia

$32

The Cleanse Soft Foaming Cleanser + Makeup Remover

With wildfire smoke and pollutants everywhere, including our skin, cleanliness is especially desirable now. This new foam lathers extravagantly and sweeps away sunscreen, makeup, and who knows what swiftly, without a trace of tightness.

Hermès

$59

Hermesistible Infused Lip Care Oil

Is there such a thing as summer lips? If so, this gloss is the ticket: moist but not sticky, each gently tinted shade has its own particular scent created by no less than Christine Nagel, the Hermès perfumer. Fancy!

Byroe

$55

Mojito Lip Mask

This tingly mask has AHAs to exfoliate lips and gobs of hyaluronic acid and jojoba oil to keep things plump and luscious. To me, it smells less like a mojito and more like a tropical, floral cocktail.

D.S. & Durga

$190

Pistachio Perfume

This summer, everyone woke up and discovered pistachio—in their ice cream, in their pasta, and in their fine fragrances. D.S. & Durga made theirs on a whim, and it’s an ode to the sweet desserts you find in Sicily with a bright red cherry on top.

Vacation

$22

Baby Oil SPF 30

If, back in your foolish youth, you marinated in baby oil as you “lay out” at the beach (yes, me), you might get a fear-laced thrill at the sight of this bottle. It looks, smells, and feels like classic baby oil, but it has SPF 30 to gloss skin with no scorching aftermath.

Danessa Myricks

$22

Dew Wet Balm in Sweet Water

I have no interest in “glass skin” and other nonsense terms, but that’s what popped in my head when I rubbed on this balm. A fiery peach shimmer emerged on my cheeks as if I were a heroine in a Thomas Hardy novel.

Violette_Fr

$28

Bisou Balm in Bêtise

This wonderous bullet of balmy color creates a bouche mordue, just-bitten lips (merci, DuoLingo). This most flattering flush is held in a richly moisturizing formula for a sensually blurry color.

Vuja De Beauty

$40

V1 Detangle in Pure White

With its handsome shape and gold-tipped handle, this takes the detangling brush up a notch, style-wise. The nub-less bristles work on wet or dry hair, colored or natural, fine, fragile, coarse, extensions—all the hair. It also stimulates the scalp delightfully.

RÔZ

$52

Milk Hair Serum

Yes, this serum from hairstylist Mara Roszak moisturizes, detangles, and minimizes frizz. Yes, it leaves hair as shiny as a new penny (NB for anyone under 30: a penny is a coin no one uses anymore). The scent is a happy surprise: unimaginably enticing, like a fine perfume.

Byredo

$91

Summer Rain Candle

There is nothing as refreshing as summer rain on a hot day, and this candle captures that relief with basil and spearmint and the wet-leaf smell of fig and grasses.

Tom Ford

$295

Neroli Portofino

If you went to the Amalfi Coast this summer with everyone else, congratulations. If not, spritz on this fragrance. It captures the scent of the sea, the lemon trees, and the bougainvillea that mingle as you climb the hill after a day Instagramming at La Fontelina.

Jacquemus

$435

Le Chapeau Bomba Straw Wide Brim Hat

For the sun-averse and style-confident, here’s a hat! It’s a like wearing a golf umbrella, but less obnoxiously. Jacquemus has made a tempting niche in the sun-hat sector, especially with his fetching array of buckets.

Saint Laurent

$1,100

Panier Small Leather-Trimmed Raffia Tote

This charmingly dégagé tote has long leather handles to sit neatly over your shoulder and a gold YSL clasp to give it a kick. Imagine Catherine Deneuve filling it with flowers at the Place des Lices.

The Row

$890

Bare Sandals (65mm)

As you’d expect from The Row, these sandals are minimalist perfection. A strip of leather no wider than a licorice whip wraps delicately around the foot and ankle. The heel is set in slightly to give the shoes a little swagger. It’s as bare as feet can be.

RMS Beauty

$48

SuperNatural Radiance Serum Broad Spectrum SPF 30

This serum/illuminator/sunscreen hybrid is the best of all worlds. It feels and looks nothing like a sunscreen yet it relies, incongruously, entirely on fine zinc oxide. It also has natural oils, peptides, and a quiet tint to give skin a hit of warmth.

Biologique Recherche

$199

Sérum Biosensible

A summer filled with sunscreen, sun, chlorine, salt water, and dodging sharks can leave skin sensitive, red, and annoyed. This serum soothes all that quickly with five drops massaged languorously on bare skin.

Osea

$54

Seabiotic Water Cream

This cream—loaded with seaweed—feels like a cool drink of water. It’s so lightweight, you might think it’s doing practically nothing for your skin. But it’s a sneaky moisturizer that claims to hydrate for over 72 hours.

Biafine

$24.80

Emulsion Cream

The French have been using this ointment for generations to soothe sunburns, bites, rashes, and other sources of summertime sadness. Get the big tube and slather it on everyone you know.
