A few minutes past New Haven’s Hillhouse Avenue—described by both Mark Twain and Charles Dickens as the most beautiful street in America—you will discover Yale University’s Peabody Museum, home to Yale’s dinosaur collection. Founded in 1866, the Peabody moved to its current location in 1925. Now, after four long years of renovation, the museum has finally reopened, and so have its Minerals, Earth, and Space galleries. The biggest change to the galleries is a new hall, which can host large events while highlighting some of the Mineralogy collection’s rarest gems. Among these rarities is a 1,900-pound quartz crystal. —Zack Hauptman
