The Tony-nominated Broadway musical Waitress had fortuitous timing. The show—the story of a frustrated small-town waitress who escapes her callous husband and claustrophobic job through a pie-making contest—completed its nearly four-year run just before the pandemic shut down Broadway. Now that Broadway is coming back, so is Waitress. Many of the original cast members are returning to their roles, including Sara Bareilles, the singer-songwriter who wrote the show’s music and lyrics. “I couldn’t miss the opportunity to be there when Broadway welcomes audiences back into theaters that have been sitting dark for over a year,” said Bareilles, who will wear her blue waitress uniform through October 17. —J.D.
