Transformed: Objects Reimagined by American Artists

Sept 23 – Dec 3, 2021
3 S Mountain Ave, Montclair, NJ 07042, United States

In 1964, lost in reflection, Jasper Johns wrote in his sketchbook, “Take an object. Do something to it. Do something else to it.” That thought is the premise of this singular exhibition, which examines 60 artworks from 1829 to the present, all of them taking a specific object as a point of departure and doing something transformative to it. The final works take various forms—still life, collage, constructions—and among the many artists presented are Andy Warhol, Sarah Miriam Peale, and Melvin Edwards. —E.C.
