Elliott has writer’s block. To help him break it, friends send him on a writer’s retreat upstate. When the woodland quiet is invaded by a voice singing a number from one of Elliott’s own musicals, he bolts back to New York City, only to discover the voice has followed him home. So begins the new one-man show written by David Cale and directed by Leigh Silverman. The beleaguered Elliott is played by Sean Hayes (Will & Grace), who “takes to this material as if it were written for him,” according to Helen Shaw in The New York Times. —Jeanne Malle
