There’s a new half-pipe for Florence’s skaters and skateboarders. Manifattura Tabacchi, a sprawling event and exhibition space, enlisted Antonio Perazzi—architect, botanist, landscape designer—to make a garden alongside the venue. Opened last June, Giardino della Ciminiera is now home to 700 shrubs, flowers, and perennial herbs from a Tuscan nursery. “They provide a real example of a utopian society in which nature is art,” explained Perazzi, “and all that humans have to do to create a new landscape is let themselves be seduced by its poetry.” Superduper, a hat and clothing brand, has teamed up with Switch, an Italian shop, to turn the space into a utopia for skaters, too, by making the half-pipe. Utopias are rarely permanent: the skate park will stay up for just one year. —Jensen Davis
