It’s easy to characterize a painting by Amedeo Modigliani: an elongated face and neck, almond-shaped eyes, the sitter wrapped in warm ochres, browns, and burgundies. It’s equally easy to call up a still life by Giorgio Morandi. Close your eyes and a humble arrangement of earthenware vessels takes shape, painted in strokes of chalk white, clay, and beige. As chance would have it, the 20th-century Italian collector Alberto Della Ragione bought paintings by both artists. The Museo del Novecento now displays 15 works by Modigliani and Morandi, all from Della Ragione’s collection. —Elena Clavarino
