The Platinum Jubilee: The Queen's Accession

July 22 – Oct 2, 2022
Buckingham Palace, London SW1A 1AA, United Kingdom

No British monarch has reigned over the country for as long as Elizabeth II. She ascended the throne in 1952, 70 years ago. It was February, and Elizabeth was traveling in Kenya when she received the fateful call that informed her of her father’s death. She returned to Britain immediately. At 27, she was crowned in Westminster Abbey. This exhibition celebrates the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with relics from those early days. Highlights include Dorothy Wilding’s portraits, which were copied for stamps and British embassies around the world. And, of course, there are assorted tiaras that have been passed down through generations. —Elena Clavarino
