“Everyday objects shriek aloud.” This quote, uttered by the prolific Surrealist painter René Magritte, demonstrates his deep fascination with ordinary things. The Belgian artist focused on such things—a bowler hat, a tuba, a pipe—and reproduced them again and again in dreamlike settings, often with a nod to his predecessor in metaphysics, Giorgio de Chirico. With around 90 paintings supported by a selection of films and photographs, this exhibition spotlights the repetitive nature of Magritte’s explorations. —Sabina Vitale
