Steve McQueen, who directed the films 12 Years a Slave (2013) and Small Axe (2020), has one simple goal for his new video installation at Dia Beacon: to show how “light, color, and sound affect and upend our perception of space, time, and ourselves.” That’s all. McQueen will transform the 30,000-square-foot ground-level gallery into an immersive installation, one that lets viewers travel through the entire spectrum of visible light while listening to an audio component. McQueen’s first presentation at Dia Beacon, it promises to be his most abstract ever. —Clara Molot
